The Beryl project is now discontinued merged (back) into Compiz = Compiz Fusion.

For help I can recommend these two discussion forums:

• Compiz forums

There are some differences between Beryl and Compiz Fusion but nothing that one can’t learn and get used to. Compiz Fusion does have some sexy plugins though and I’m really loving it so far. Settings are easily changed by using the CompizConfig Settings Manager (often referred to as ccsm, which also is the command used to run it). Regarding window decorations you can just keep using Emerald.
